Environment

I have been in many classrooms since I began teaching, but the one I'm in now is my favorite.

I arrange the physical space in my classroom very thoughtfully. I try to maximize space and storage so students can safely navigate the area to retrieve supplies and their work.

My classroom includes a variety of spaces for students to work including tables, multiple sized printers for their use, a work station for mounting and assembling their work, and, thankfully, storage of art supplies!

Organization of student work and supplies is incredibly important! When instructing so many students per week, allowing students to move about the work space maximizes instructional time and creates an environment of accountability. Allowing students to organize and/or retrieve materials, they feel empowered that they are a critical role in the class.

Most importantly, I try to make each student to feel welcomed by creating a warm, inviting classroom atmosphere with twinkle lights overhead, lamps in between tables for soft lighting, and a scented diffuser to make it smell nice. I try to make the physical space inviting and relaxed.

I allow for a lot of open-ended choice with-in each assignment because in the classroom environment I want to create a culture of inclusiveness and freedom. I hope that each student feels valued and respected in my room so that he or she can enjoy our time together.
