Planning

When you plan with the end in mind, you set high-expectations for your students.

I create and teach lessons that are age-appropriate and will get students excited about learning. I make cross-curricular connections whenever possible and align lessons to PA state and National Art Education Standards.

When I start lesson planning, I try to think of the bigger goals for a particular unit and then write or plan the individual lessons to achieve goals. I consider how each unit connects from previous grades and how new skills can be developed.

As an art teacher, one must always consider supplies and resources available, and how to differentiate the lesson for a variety of students.

In one unit focusing on SCULPTURE, students in grade 7 created sugar Skull soft sculptures as they examined the art of Jose Posada and the cultural significance of Dia de los Muertos to Mexico.
