Inspired by modern Japanese artist Korehiko Hino's Surreal portraits, my students studied the principle of design EMPHASIS as they created creepy portraits. (If you haven't seen Hino's work, do NOT look at it before bed! They are WEIRD and CREEPY... but in a good way!) Students began by creating basic human facial proportions, then were to EMPHASIZE one feature on the face to turn their drawing into a creepy creature! I'd say these were successful!
